Also, though this dropped a little over a week ago, the single for the debut Slaughterhouse album finally dropped. "The One" is growing on me daily as it has true crossover appeal. Definitely not only has a rock-n-roll type beat via DJ Khalil, but the whole style of the track is, Crooked I has a few 1 liners that are just hilarious "I'm the one to cause an affair, so when your bitch burp you smell my balls in the air". It's a shame that a song like "party like a rockstar" can BLOW UP and this may not even though it has the same premise but is way more hip-hop and a more clever approach then yelling "TOTALLY DUDE!". With this track being out (DL: The ONE) and the video coming soon it makes me realize they have now dropped 9 tracks, all bangers! Time to rank them as we may not get any more leaks til the album drops (beyond the track on each EP)
1/ Onslaught. This still has to be #1 to me, this made it official, the Red Spyda beat knocks hard and everyone goes in on it.
2/ Wack MC's. This did not catch as quickly as I thought it would, another Red Spyda banger, and Royce drops the type of verse you can def sing along to in the club.
3/ Move On. All 4 of these guys are known for going deep as well as the ill punchlines, here it really works over the Kickdrums beat.
4/ Warriors. 2 Verses each, all murder, beat is FIRE, just a dope ass track.
5/ Woodstock. MOP on the hook, Joell stuck in the middle like "L-M-N-O", man Ortiz really murks everything.
6/ The One. The single really bangs, love the hook, love the back-n-forth with Joey and Joell.
7/ Slaughterhouse. The one that started the idea, Nino Bless also on this one and he holds his own with the vets, great track, beat very "posse cut like" but a lil blank for my liking. Still the bars are ridiculous.
8/ Fight Klub. This one is dope and they all come correct but it is more what the haters were expecting, no hook and just some bars over an okay beat, I still dig the shit out of it, don't get me wrong.
9/ Money On The Floor. The real song is by Corte but they S.H. Remix this, a good idea to show their diversity, bars are tight as always.
So far they have yet to make a wack cut which is taking my antipication level for the album to a new high, hopefully they do not disappoint!

3 Offseason Stories I'm Into So Far:
1. Rich Get Richer.
Talk about a top heavy season coming up! The Lakers bring in Ron Artest, the Celtics bring in Rasheed Wallace (at least), the Spurs add Richard Jefferson, Cav's get Shaq, Magic get Vince. So those are basically THE 5 legit contenders in the NBA next season all improving, add in Denver and Portland both just improving on great seasons.
2. Hedo!
Yes, I do believe that Vince over Hedo, Rafer, AND C.Lee is an improvement, especially since I like Ryan Anderson a lot. Vince will be able to hit the big shots and demand the attention late that hurt the Magic in the finals. Still Hedo had a chance to either stay with the Magic and make a serious run at the title OR go to Portland who would've been talked about in #1 above more seriously if they landed Hedo. That young backcourt with Hedo, Outlaw, Webster, Aldridge and Oden up front? Scary, instead he goes to the Rap's an organization that seem to have no clue at the moment. Still, though they underachieved last year, a starting 5 of Calderon, Derozan, Hedo, Bosh, Bargnani should put up some points.
3. The others trying to compete.
Teams like the Nets and Bucks have admitted it is a low budget youth movement, but then I look at the Pistons, Bulls, Wizards and wonder how their seasons will go. The Pistons spent a boatload of money on scorers Ben Gordon and UConn pal Charlie Villanueva, with Stuckey and Rip do they think this core will really win them a chip? I don't see it, why waste all that money? Getting Boozer would help. The Bulls seem to be on the cusp and should get better, they had to find a way to keep Ben Gordon. The Wizards made a deal I love as far as getting better, bringing in Foye and Miller gives them an excellent starting 5 and bench, but will it be enough? Still the East will be extremely exciting.

1. Slaughterhouse – Move On
All 4 of them kill it, Joey always shines in his introspective verses, I wish all the beats on Padded Room fit his style as well as this one does.
2. Charles Hamilton – Most Likely To Succeed
I am started to become a fan of dude, love the way he flips beats and he's an extremely creative mc.
3. The Dream – Right Side Of Your Brain
This whole album actually bangs, but this song hits hard, great slow jam.
4. Jadakiss – Kiss My Ass
Yo, Jada brought HEAT on the Kiss My Ass Mixtape, I don't care what anyone says, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the actual album is just as hot.
5. Keri Hilson – Intuition
Love the beat, love the subject matter since all girls always assuming shit.
6. D-Block – Get This Paper
Sheek's best verse in years! Fuck Detox, all I want in life is 1 more real Lox album!
7. Camp Lo – On Smash
Bangin beat and Styles P sounds vicious over it.
8. Cassie – Must Be Love
This is my most surprising favorite beat of the year. This beat is so chill and it is a headbanger.

Damn Joey Crack always has at least 1 East Coast banger per album. Sampling the classic Hendrix song damn, gotta have a remix with Joe Budden!
10. Ryan Leslie – Youre FlyHis whole style is dope, this is him in his element to me, not too slow not too fast, I love his midtempo joints.

Albums I'm messing with so far in 09:
No specific order really but:
The Dream - Love Vs. Money. I'm not really a fan of his real fast tracks but the slower ones BANG. "Rockin That Thang" "Sweat It Out" "Put It Down" theres some heat on this album.
Kickdrums - Smash The System. Yo, these dudes have serious talent and have a unique sound, I'm really curious about the EP they got coming out.
Keri Hilson - In A Perfect World. Dope ass debut.
Joe Budden - Padded Room. Still has not topped Mood Muzik 2 but it is a very good album overall, lyrically he's a monster as always, I just think the production could have been a little better.
UGK - UGK 4 Life. Just skimmed through this over the weekend and this is a really good album, way better then expected.

Keri Hilson - In A Perfect World Review (Track by Track)

I've been a fan of Ms. Hilson for a minute now, especially as a fan of Timbaland, Danja, & Polow, and album helmed by all 3 has to be hot. With Hip-Hop being kinda wack right now I was really looking forward to this album and I think it delivered.
1/ Intro. Beat is hot, she is very cocky on it with a nice flow, uses the lil' "get me some henney & apple juice if u really wanna get me loose" which is bittersweet because "Happy Juice" should have been on this album!
2/ Turnin Me On. Everybody has heard this, this track took a few weeks to grow on me but it is a banger. It is also one of the only post Carter III verses I fuck with by Wayne.
3/ Get Your Money Up. This song seems to be a favorite of many but it is a skipper for me. I could see why this would be an anthem for the ladies though and it's cool hearing Keyshia Cole over a faster track like this.
4/ Return The Favor. Timb & Keri trying to recreate the "Way I Are" magic or trying to make another "Promiscous Girl". It is a solid track but comes up short.
5/ Knock You Down. I really love everything about this track. This is the 1 that will take her to the next level. Ne-Yo's verse is spot-on.
6/ Slow Dance. Girls should dig this track and the fellas who find Keri sexy as hell (like myself) will dig it as well. Was shocked Polow did not produce this.
7/ Make Love. More of an old school style RnB ballad, fits in well.
8/ Intuition. Bangin' Danja beat, dope ass song about a girl having that 6th sense that their man is creepin. Probably my fave track on the album.
9/ How Does It Feel. An older style Timbaland banger, this track goes hard in the whip and Keri holds it down.
10/ Alienated. Nice chill joint here, not in love with the whisperry verses but I feel the song overall.
11/ Tell Him The Truth. Every good RnB album needs a song like this, pure emotion super slow song, dope track.
12/ Change Me. Skip. Why is Akon on every album? Very unneccessary spot for him here.
13/ Energy. Still a great song where Keri gets to show her pipes.
14/ Where Did He Go. A Keri song that made me a fan a few years back. Great slow song but I was hoping the quality would be better then the leaked version, still sounds a lil shitty to me, great song though.
Overall: 4 out of 5. This album wouldve hit me harder if half the tracks hadnt been out forever. It's diverse but still cohesive. If she replaced "Get Your Money Up" with "Happy Juice" & added a full version of "Wrong When You're Gone" @ the end I'd really love this album. I think "Knock You Down" was a great late addition though and should get mad attention on this album. The girl helps with the production, can sing, looks sexy, AND writes all her own ish. Props from me.

I have always been optimistic when it has come to hip-hop, people crying about it's dead, the golden age is gone, etc, etc, I have always loved a lot of music. So far though, 2009 has been ASS. I gave my 4 reasons to keep hope and I stand by all of those things but I have not heard 1 album yet this year that I have even remotely liked. Padded Room is pretty ill but I don't think its gonna have crazy long term play value with me. The record industry wonders why people arent buying music? Music is so bad right now that I am to lazy to even DL half of this shit FOR FREE! The next month Jadakiss finally drops solo # 3 and I am amped for that, especially the supposed collabo with Just Blaze/Jazmine Sullivan, so hopefully he will give me something to keep strong in the whip. As far as this new generation? I think I am finally turning into an old head, because none of these younger cats are doin it for me. I seen Cudi live last year and he did his thing, but as a fan of real lyrics, shit is just to basic. Asher Roth? I wanted a whiteboy to use the suburb gimmick that was actually someone I'd wanna chill with, he has a commanding voice and flow, but again, lyrics are MAJORLY lacking. I like Charles Hamilton but his pissed off at the world approach ain't workin so far either, (though Brooklyn Girls shouldve gotten the spins Day N Nite and I Love College are gettin at LEAST) Regardless I wanna start updating the blog more but damn its hard when there is nothing to post. I'm not gonna bore you with 50 cent diss tracks, every Drake/Wayne collab that leaks, and every remix that T-Pain hops on... So hopefully we will spring ahead to some dope music.

5 Reasons To Be Excited About Hip-Hop in 2K9

1/ SLAUGHTERHOUSE. Sorry to keep beating a dead horse but this is definitely bringing the best out of 4 really dope mc's. Haters and doubters will say "oh they have no major label deals, their washed up, no radio play" etc, and I say, who gives a fuck. If they keep releasing bangers I'm straight. Joe Budden is in the middle of slaying a worthy opponent in Saigon at the moment and will hopefully release a classic with Padded Room (out February 24th!). Royce Da 5'9 has released the first single from his highly anticipated Street Hop album (and let's be real, Shake Dat is a fucking banger). Joell Ortiz is prepping the Free Agent mixtape and Crooked I has released some really good mixtapes leading up to his B.O.S.S. album. I think all 4 albums could be top 10 of the year type material and hopefully they will release something together after. These dudes are keeping me excited in hip-hop right now.
2/ AFTERMATHS's LAST HOORAH. If things go as planned it sounds like the monster Trio of Dr. Dre, Eminem, and 50 Cent will all release albums this year. The negative right off the bat is the recently released "Crack A Bottle" featuring all 3 is, well, a bit underwhelming. People have their doubts about Detox, but they did about the Chronic 2001 as well and Dre delivered. Em had 3 extremely dope albums but then threw a brick on his last one, can he redeem himself? And 50 needs to prove he is still relevant in music with his next one. I for 1 and curious to see how this plays out.
3/ Rappers ternt Sangers going back to rapping. A lot of our favorite emcee's have went other routes after gaining success. A recent example was Q-Tip getting shelved with Kamaal The Abstract but then coming back and delivering an excellent hip-hop album with The Renaissance. For better (Gnarls Barkley) or worse (808's & Heartbreaks) some of our favorite mc's decided to start singing recently, but this year (at least by rumor) they are ALL set to drop albums. Andre 3000 has teased us with verses the last few years and word is he is going back to his break & butter and release an album as a rapper! Mos Def seems to be back to his old self so far with releases leading up to his new album, The Ecstatic. Cee-Lo is rumored to be working on a hip-hop solo album, and even though I love Gnarls, I love Cee-Lo rapping more. Kanye West is prepping A Good Ass Job to pick-up where Graduation left off. Even Common is going to try and and redeem himself for UMC. If all of these artists drop albums, 2009 could get extremely exciting, of course odds are none of these albums actually drop.
4/ Another Blueprint album. It looks like this is actually going to happen. I thought American Gangster was a reeeally good album but I'm starting to wonder if Jay-Z can really deliver another timeless album. Going back to the original Blueprint formula is very exciting, and say what you want about Kanye, he continues to drop amazing beats. I just hope he lets Just Blaze get a few bangers on there and this album obviously has the "potential" to be another Hova Classic.
5/ Young cats. I'm not gonna front, I'm not overly excited about many of these new dudes at all. But some of them have me at least curious. Jay Electronica officially won me over on "Transformations", the amazing Just Blaze beat helped but he definitely did his thing on it. B.O.B. is another southern dude but mixes in his eclectic style. I think an album by him is something I'd at least check for. Charles Hamilton's mixtapes have definitely potential, I feel like theres not enough effort there, I will definitely check for an album by him though. I think Wale is kinda dope but his flow gets kinda blah to me and his attempt at mainstream on that cool n dre track was weak. I am a huge Mark Ronson fan so the beats will definitely be dope, I would honestly rather get another Rhymest album though. Kid Cudi has a dope personality and I saw him live and he does his thing but I still question his overall song making ability. All these dudes are pretty dope but not sure who will seperate themselves from the pack. I'll be rooting for Blu, who I'd love to see sign to a major, and release a focused solo album, or get back and do another joint with Exile.
HONORABLE MENTION: A new Jadakiss album and possibly a new LOX album. Jadakiss is on Def Jam, he has the machine behind him, he has buzz with the letter to BIG and the movie out. I am a little worried already though. They wanted to go catchy with a single, and giving him a Ne-Yo hook and a beat that sounds like whats on the radio now makes sense, but the song just is not as catchy as I feel it could have been. No Premier and I think only 1 Swizz Beat? Does not make sense, Jada sounds ferocious over Primo. Kiss needs to prove he can release a cohesive album of the year canditate type of album. Oh, and I'm definitely looking forward to the jawn with Jazmine Sullivan on the hook over a Just Blaze beat, that song has to be hot.
HONORABLE MENTION II: DETROIT. Black Milk is developing into 1 of my favorite producers ever, and he has enough rumored projects to blow the innanetz up. Elzhi is a straight beast on the mic and we can only pray a rumored project with Royce comes to fruition this year. We may get a new Slum Village, new Eminem, more posthumous Dilla, Phat Kat, Houseshoes, etc. The D is holding it down right now.

This song originally came out with just Joell and Joe, now we get the whole F'N crew. Is this gonna be the first supergroup that actually delivers? I mean, "Onslaught" is a straight lyrical clinic, but you wonder how do you keep it interesting. Here, they switch it up and give you some personal shit and they absolutely murder it. Joey has to roll with "Benjamin Budden" as a full time AKA now, shit is fire.

Adele - First Love (Remot Remix ft. Naledge of Kidz In The Hall)
Adele is about to get mad love once she takes a home a few Grammy's but the genius that is Mick Boogie got a head start with his remix project of her excellent album "19". Remot is the producer that stands out to me most on the Mick Boogie projects and the original beat is flipped perfectly on this hip-hop remix. I will be rooting for Adele during the Grammy's.

Ali Vegas - Everyday Iz WarHere's a Primo banger that has sort of slipped through the cracks. I am personally a Vegas fan and hope eventually he breaks through. Maybe we will get an album in 09.

Brandy - Camouflage
I'm sayin, this is the 3rd Brandy album in a row I adore. Girls gotta be my guilty pleasure, all she does is release quality, honest, rnb music. Matter of a fact, I am gonna go to best buy and buy this album this week.

My bad, work's been crazy busy, planning a wedding is INSANE, and the biggest problem, music right now SUCKS. January is usually a slow music month but this year we are really hurting. A couple random things.
1/ Did I read correctly that Paul Blart: Mall Cop has made 60 Mil in 2 weeks in a slow movie month? That is the most amazing thing I've ever see, did the PG Rating really get that many families to go see this? I wouldve thought the over/under on how much this movie would make would be 18 million TOTAL. I like Kevin James, but wow.
2/ Speaking of the last name James. Lebron is the best player these 2 eyes have personally ever seen. I mean, he hit a game winner the other at the buzzer on the road, and it's just ho-hum like nothing, you expect it now. I picked on this site before the season the Cavs to win it all, and I feel stronger then ever about that pick. Sadly, whenever someone is having that lock MVP year, someone else is probably gonna get screwed out of an mvp trophy even though they are having an MVP year, that is D-Wade. Flash is balling out of his mind right now and if they bring in Brad Miller I think this team can make some noise in the playoffs.
3/ Finally watched a few episodes of True Blood, good ish. Big Love is back and dramatic as ever and Nip/Tuck has me hooked as usual.
4/ I still gotta catch Notorious, loved Taken and The Wrestler.
5/ Excited for baseball. Now that Andy's back the Yanks starting rotation is unbelievable. I am for Joba to the 'pen now because I am still heavily behind Phil Hughes (no homo).

1/Nas – Hero
“Nas, Polow Da Donnnn” This beat is insane. Polow gives Nas a crossover type track that works in the clubs without it being a “sell-out” track. I think my crush Keri Hilson could’ve been used a little more, but this was a perfect single and should have been a bigger hit. Plus Nas comes through on verse 3 explaining the whole situation behind the album title. Basically, its the type of track that sums up Nas's longevity, he was able to get a insanely hot beat from arguably the hottest producer in music, keep it commercial for radio play but stays true to his fanbase, which is why hate it or not, Nas stays on a major and stays selling albums.
2/ T.I. – No Matter What
When this song dropped I though he had “what you know” part II on his hands. Danja laced him with the perfect beat to clear his chest and he ran with it. Probably my favorite hook of the year, it's simple, but gets me amped.
3/ Lil’ Wayne – I’m Me
This song had hit a few mixtapes before ’08 but really hit the net high quality this year. This song is the Wayne people love. Lyrics, passion, flow, attitude, and the beat is fire, scratched intro, this is Dewayne Carters Opus.

This song is Cee-Lo and Dangermouse at their finest. Vintage sounding aggressive beat with brilliant lyrics and chorus by Cee-Lo Green.

Bangin’ Black Milk beat with 2 of the premier lyricists in the game. The beat is so dope that the fact there is no hook does not even matter. As Elzhi says of the dynamic duo:

I’ll take this song over “Yea” any day. This song feels big, this song made me wanna hit the club immediately. Jeezy’s verse gave it a street feel as well. Polow Da Don ain’t fuckin around. Rest of the album... not so much.
9/ Christian Falk – Dream On ft. Robyn (Moto Blanco Remix)
Listening to this song just makes u feel like u should be in some weird club in the city. A song that reaches out to anyone, the funny thing about a lot of remixes is how weird the original sounds after u heard it. Moto Blanco gave it a whole new feel and the vocals sound so much more alive over this beat. This is basically the perfect "club/dance/house" song in my opinion. (PICTURED ABOVE)
10/ MIA – Paper Planes (Diplo Remix ft. Bun B & Rich Boy)
Yes Paper Planes was out long before 1/1/08, but this remix with verses from Bun B and Rich Boy came out this year and took it to a new level. This will go down as one of the great hooks of the decade.

I can’t get enough of this Britt for some reason. She has a great voice, has a weird songwriting style and has you hanging on at the end of the song to see what happens, Kate Nash has a fan in me.

Adele has such a great voice, its so sincere and real, this song touches on the idea of defending whatever little town your from, she even drops an F bomb, love this girl.

Expectations were high for the second solo BM project and he comes with an underground version of Swizz’s money in the bank. And please stop sayin he can’t rap.

Mr. Mig is making remixes that I love, this was my favorite song of the summer, this song could have been a big hit.

Fat Joe gets together with old pal Primo and gets his Flow Joe on, the Young Jeezy used hook puts it over the top.
